Osteopathy - Post-operative
Patients have found osteopathy extremely beneficial, returning their function and/or decreasing pain very quickly.
Using gentle techniques we can treat immediately after a plaster cast is removed, within a few days of arthroscopy and a few weeks following joint replacement.
Initially treatment reduces the swelling and stiffness and addresses the trauma to the joint as a result of surgery. We then look at:
restoring the quality of movement to the joint (cardinal swing);
stretching the muscle;
joint articulation and exercise to increase range of movement;
joint articulation and exercise to strengthen the surrounding muscles;
the rest of the body to ensure that balance is restored everywhere.
In addition to osteopathic manipulation, we also use ultrasound and medical acupuncture when appropriate.
